Do you agree with the policy approach set out for HSC1: Promoting health and wellbeing?

In part

Please provide us with your comments on the approach taken for the above policy, including any other issues or ideas you feel that we should consider?

Policy needs to define, or at least give examples, of the sort of community and health facilities required Policy should avoid weasel words like 'where appropriate' or 'where possible'. Instead its should provide clear benchmarking as to what types of facilities would be required. It is not sufficient to 'minimise unsafe levels of indoor or outdoor pollution'. There must be NO unsafe levels. Needs to add a policy for easy and safe access to all services (not just open space) National minimum domestic space requirements should be embedded in policy as important for health and well-being Need for a specific policy to address noise pollution to sit alongside that for light pollution. The light pollution policy is poorly drafted. It currently says: 'Take account of light pollution to reduce impacts that high intensity lighting has on people’s health and wellbeing, without compromising on safety and the need to minimise crime and fear of crime'; Would better as: 'Security and street lighting should be carefully directed and sparingly used to avoid light pollution and the adverse impacts on health and well-being caused by intermittent, intense and wasteful lighting'

No

As currently drafted the policy is clearly geared towards perpetuating motor roads and car-dependent developments. The Policy should read: 'Highway infrastructure will not be permitted for unsustainable transport modes and private car use in line with Policy HSC1 for health and well-being'.

Do you agree with the policy approach set out for HSC3: Green & Blue Infrastructure?

The new term 'green and blue infrastructure' is clumsy, particularly when used repeatedly as it is here. Use accessible words like 'nature', 'planting' and 'water-bodies' instead. Add a specific policy for street trees with a measurable target for minimum tree cover in built environments

Do you agree with the policy approach set out for HSC4: Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal?

In part

Please provide us with your comments on the approach taken for the above policy, including any other issues or ideas you feel that we should consider?

The Policy for safeguarding the canal corridor is supported. The policy allowing for development preventing the restoration of any section of the canal is not supported, because to do so is likely to make the entire scheme unviable. An additional complementary policy needs to be added safe-guarding the routes of all the County's historic rail lines in the same way.

It is all about "creating a community". This occurs best where those living in the community walk from their home to their destination/ or bus stop, chat to those that they pass. Communities where most/ all journeys after shutting the front door are by private vehicle are "dormitories" which is very different to living in a "community".

I support this 100%

I support this 100%. Gets away from the typical house developers formula where design is used to maximise their profit. Herefordshire Council needs to stay strong and demand good, creative design, a sense of "place", our street is not the same as all the others, use of landscaping, trees, vegetation, a scene that is open and airy

100% agree. A restored canal in urban areas creates a green corridor. Canal paths provide a traffic free environment for walkers and cyclists and a greenway to the centre of town free of noise and pollution. Don't forget the occasional doggy bin and park benches for those with a little more time of their hands.

neighbourhoods and villages should include opportunities for community orchards, allotments, and local markets with an emphasis on growing food locally and supporting sustainable food sources
